Apple’s making some serious moves to dodge those pesky tariffs, and it’s all about reshoring tech manufacturing. On Wednesday, CEO Tim Cook, flanked by President Trump at the White House, announced Apple would pour an additional $100 billion into U.S. manufacturing. This brings their grand total to a jaw-dropping $600 billion in domestic investments. Yep, that’s billion with a “B.”

Apple’s Manufacturing Shift Creates 450,000 Jobs Across 50 States

In case you missed it, Apple had already promised $500 billion earlier this year for U.S. infrastructure, but now they’re cranking it up with a new American Manufacturing Program. This program will focus on boosting domestic production of key components for Apple devices. Cook wasn’t shy about it, saying,

“We broke ground on a new factory in Houston to make advanced AI servers, and last month, the very first test unit rolled off that factory’s line, proudly made in America.”

Take that, China!

But wait, there’s more! Apple’s not just about assembly lines and iPhones. They’re also targeting rare earth minerals and advanced magnets, basically everything needed for those devices you can’t live without. Apple’s efforts will reportedly create 450,000 jobs across all 50 states. That’s a lot of opportunities, folks.

Now, don’t think this is just a feel-good move for Apple. Trump, who’s been urging companies to bring jobs back home to avoid higher tariffs, applauded the announcement.

He added,

“We’re going to be putting a very large tariff on chips and semiconductors…but if you’re building in the U.S.-there will be no charge.”

Seems like Apple figured out the secret to staying tariff-free: Just build everything on U.S. soil. Who would’ve thought?

Meanwhile, Apple’s AI ambitions are also on the up-and-up. Cook made it clear they’re still all in on AI, with massive investments in data centers across North Carolina, Nevada, and more. Even if Apple Intelligence hasn’t exactly hit the ground running, they’re betting big on AI to help them keep pace with rivals.

Apple’s not the only one hopping on the “let’s build everything in the U.S.” bandwagon.

Earlier this year, OpenAI teamed up with Oracle and SoftBank for a $500 billion Stargate Project. Nvidia followed suit with their own $500 billion pledge to build AI supercomputers in the U.S. So yeah, big bucks are being thrown around.

As expected, reactions to Apple’s move have been…mixed. Some folks are all in, calling it a win for American jobs and manufacturing. Others, though? Not so much. Criticism has come in hot, especially over Cook’s cozy appearance with Trump. One commenter on X cheered, “American Made is BACK!!!” while another user on BlueSky declared they were done with Apple altogether. Guess not everyone’s a fan of the new patriotic Apple.

Looks like this whole reshoring thing is becoming a trend, but we’ll see if it sticks or if Apple’s just trying to win back some good PR in the process.
